Naked Neck showcases unique creations from jewellers and designers working in studios overlooking the Marlborough Sounds of New Zealand.
There, these artists get their inspiration from the drowned valleys of the Sounds with over 1500 kilometres of sheltered, unspoilt beaches and waterways, mauve sunsets, the birdsong from natives of this region, the calm ocean with little tidal change, the indigenous flora and fauna, the world-renowned Sauvignon Blanc grapes hanging on the vines and the endless days of sunshine.
Each piece is hand-worked using a colourful array of hand-blown glass beads, local shells such as the neon blue-green paua, abalone and others, Swarovski crystal, pearls, and semi-precious stones.
The flame-art pendants start as a single rod of glass that is heated to melting point. Colours are added one-at-a-time. This eventually evolves into a one-of-a-kind work of art.
